Sword x Staff Classes: All 14 Classes and Paths

The class tree

TierWarrior line (Sword)Mage line (Staff)
T1 – startWarriorMage
T2 – Cinder Ridge, Lv. 44Duelist (melee DPS) · Knight (tank)Sorcerer (ranged AoE) · Sage (healer/support)
T3Berserker (from Duelist) · Paladin (from Knight)Archmage (from Sorcerer) · Arcanist (from Sage)
T4Conqueror (from Berserker) · Guardian (from Paladin)Destroyer (from Archmage) · Dominator (from Arcanist)

That is the hierarchy published by Pocket Gamer for v1.0.38 and matched by the EOG hub; Boltray’s own pre-launch site named the first eight. Class ascension past T2 unlocks a set number of days after your server was created, regardless of how fast you play — which is why “what day is my server” is a common question (see the servers guide).

Starting classes

  • Warrior — melee striker; core stats Speed, Crit, Attack (Duelist path) or Defense (Knight path). The popular opener because early damage is smoother. Named launch skills: Heavy Slash, Whirlwind Slash, Guard Defense, Charge Assault.
  • Mage — ranged caster; core stats Speed, Crit, Elemental Attack. Slower solo early, but both branches are strong later. Reroll-grade opener: Water Assault.

T2 classes (Cinder Ridge advancement)

Trait and affinity come from the EOG hub’s class cards; the role calls are shared by Pocket Gamer and swordxstaff.wiki. Community note: Sage currently has one widely-used build (Dark); Light Sorcerer is treated as a PvP-only pick.

T3 and T4 — what is actually known

Detailed skill kits for T3/T4 are not published by Boltray. What the sources agree on:

  • Berserker gets the AoE the Duelist lacked and stays PvP-relevant; Conqueror unlocks the Duelist line’s endgame skills and is rated very high in PvP.
  • Paladin and Guardian keep adding defensive and supportive kit — best frontline, never an offensive class.
  • Archmage is stronger AoE than Sorcerer; Destroyer is the T4 AoE glass cannon that wants a couple of defensive skills.
  • Arcanist gains damage- and death-immunity windows; Dominator is described as handling virtually all late content.
  • T4 unlocks at Lv. 106 per the community Season 2 checklist.

Changing class at Aqualis

Reclassing is real but not lossless: skills swap like-for-like by rarity into the new class pool (a Legendary Technique becomes a Legendary Technique of the new class), so F2P players who do not own the target skills are rolling dice; class-specific stat tuning (Block for Knight, Heal Boost for Sage) does not transfer. Standard-banner pity is account-wide and is not reset by reclassing. Community swap routes after Loong Haven: Knight → Block Duelist/Sorcerer/Sage; Sorcerer → Duelist > Sage > Knight; Duelist → Sorcerer > Sage > Knight; Sage → most classes except Knight.

Which class should you pick?

  • Want the highest solo damage ceiling and PvP: Duelist.
  • Want to AFK-farm dungeons fastest: Sorcerer.
  • Want to be wanted by every guild: Knight or Sage.
  • Whale logic (EOG): Sorcerer — four elemental modes, rarely hard-countered.
  • Everyone else: pick the combat style you like; gaps outside leaderboard pushes are small.

Per-class builds: Warrior, Mage, Duelist, Knight, Sorcerer, Sage, then the builds hub for T3/T4. Rankings: class tier list.
